Geocache Description:

Daniel Webster was one of America's most famous statesman, and Marshfield's favorite resident.  He began his career as a lawyer, went on to serve in Congress, representing New Hampshire, and later Massachusetts.   He was elected to the Senate, representing Massachusetts.  Webster served as Secretary of State under three different Presidents.

Throughout his long political career, it was his accomplishments as a legal counsel and orator that earned him his greatest fame.

When in Marshfield, he practiced law and entertained dignitaries from the humble one room building pictured at right, which now resides on the Winslow property south of Marshfield Center.
The office is a National Historic Landmark, and contains some of Webster's original letters, his possessions, and artifacts relating to his life at his Marshfield estate.  A visit to the Winslow House can include access to the Webster Law Office.  Webster actually bought the Winslow house from the estate of Dr. Isaac Winslow in 1844 but never lived there.  After his own house burned in 1878, his daughter-in-law lived in the Winslow house while hers was being rebuilt.

The cache is a small camo wrapped lock-n-lock, placed across the yard in the woods directly behind the office.
