Geocache Description:

Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve, Plano's largest park, is an 800-acre park extending from Parker Road on the south to Chaparral Road on the north and from Spring Creek Parkway on the west to Los Rios Boulevard on the east. The park boasts 3.5 miles of concrete trails and 5 miles of soft surface trails located along Rowlett Creek.

The newly developed Soft Trails of Oak Point Park & Nature Preserve are a wonderful place to enjoy a stroll through woods and escape the concrete jungle. The trails are open from Dawn to Dusk. Woodland creatures need time to forage, drink, rest and socialize, so please respect their free time and stay off of natural trails before sunrise and after sunset.

The trails were created using a unique program called a Walk it In Trail Establishment Program. The trails were created by groups of 20 or so hikers walking in single file following a set of pin flags that were set to mark the progression of the trail. No heavy equipment was used to create the trails, only the foot steps of the hikers passing through the woods.

Regular use of the trail is all that is needed to maintain the trail system, so this 8 staged multi-cache will help to serve that purpose. Your round trip trek should be about 4.75 miles if you choose your way wisely.

  • Stage 1 can be found at the parking lot near the trail map
  • Stage 2 is a camo pill bottle just a step or two off the path and is not on the creek side of the path.
  • Stage 3 should not be too hard to find.
  • The stretch between stage 3 and 4 can be negotiated better if you use GC17BH1 Plano Coin Toss, GC1K4NA Tree fungi, and GC1N06G Big Ole Tree as well as N 33° 03.503 W 096° 40.744 to pull you along the trail.
  • Stage 4 is a small tube that has the coordinates to stage 5 inside.
  • Stage 5 contains the coordinates to get to stage 6 as well as some CITO kits to use while you are here. You can take one of the bags but please leave the film cans so I can restock them as needed.
  • Stage 6 could prove tricky as it’s low profile helps to keep it concealed.
  • Stage 7 may be the hardest of the bunch, so Good Luck!
  • Coordinates for the Final are to be collected while visiting stages 2-7. It is an ammo can just off the trail.
