Geocache Description:

The cache is on Sustrans National Cycle Network route 82, that goes from Tregaron to Aberystwyth - we have put several other caches on the cycle path and may put a few more, to make a nice string of them, so a cycling cacher can have a good caching day out. As it's a cycle path, the terrain is reasonably flat and most of the caches can be easily reached from the path.

This cache replaces Nearly Washed Away - we suspect that there is an ammo can thief about and so are not going to put any more lovely big water tight ammo cans out in this area. All the information about the old cache still applies however, so I've cut and pasted it in here!

To find out about the NCN and Sustrans, who developed it, check out their web site. To find out about the history of the old railway route and the
cyclepath, look here: (visit link)
If you want to drive here, you can fit a small car in to a pull
in area on the road between Llanilar and Trawscoed, by the remains of the old railway bridge. If you do park there, take care when leaving. It's far better however to park at the near by Black Culvert forestry parking where you can also do a nice cache!
We wanted to place some caches 'more than half a mile from the car'- Following a trip to the USA where we met a Park Ranger who told us that visitors to the USAs national parks never went more than half a mile from the car, we always try to go a bit further!
When walking along, keep an eye out for Red Kites - there are plenty around, along with Buzzard, Ravens and all manner of smaller birds. If you are lucky you may see a Kingfisher on the river.
The name of this cache comes from the fact that a lot of the old railway was washed away about 50 years ago ( there is more about this if you follow the link to the Ystwyth Trail web site.

Happy Caching!!
