String of Pearls: Challoner Road Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Skookum Bear: As the cache owner has not indicated that they have visited the cache location to replace it if it was missing, perform needed maintenance, or verify that it is still there within a reasonable amount of time, I am regretfully archiving the cache to clear it from the active cache database and open the area to new caching opportunities. If the cache owner would like to replace a cache at this location, please submit a new geocache listing and it will be reviewed under the current Geocaching guidelines.

Please do not respond to this note by sending an email reply - your response will go to an unmonitored location and disappear into the ether instead of being sent to me. If you need to contact me regarding this cache, please do so using the link on my Profile Page

Geocache Description:

Every pearl is unique and of extraordinary beauty, just as the beaches along the waterfront of Qualicum are. I have named this series of ten beach caches, "String of Pearls", because every cache site is truly an exceptional pearl and cachers should have the opportunity of visiting and enjoying all of them. Enjoy this "String of Pearls"

Most of the waterfront roads in Qualicum are narrow as they were constructed in a bygone era. At the end of this road is a public beach access, but as you walk along the road, please look at the contrasts on each side of this road. On one side is the new modern, over sprawling, over high mix of glass and wood that is called the new-age rest spot - a motel. On the other side, rests a lodge and cabins that were built in 1938 and they remain in their original state with a rustic charm that is seldom enjoyed today. This lodge is one of the few remaining properties that hasn't been sold out to big money who create the "new" motels.

This lodge was designed and built by Mr. Simon Little, an architect who had designed many of the homes, churches and schools in this area and in surrounding townships during that era.
