Decayed Monastery
"Agía Ekateríni"
This Cache was placed at
the decayed monastery "Agía Ekateríni" (or "Ayía Aikateríni"), near
the northeast cape of Corfu.
The location is in the forest
on the island "Nissos", that is bordered by the lagoon lake "Antiniótis" in
the south and its inflows on eastern and western side.
The Antinióti-lagoon is a valuable biotope and
paradise for birds with an interesting flora and
fauna.
The monastery named after "St.
Catherine" dates from 1713 and is not open to the public.
Nevertheless there is an open entrace at the given Waypoint on the
western side. Inside you find ruinous remains of the buildings, the
decoratet entrance of the church and an overgrown olive mill. Be
careful as always in lost places! Dont't miss to climb the stairs
of the "tower" in the north-west corner of the monastery
(accessible from outside) and enjoy the view from there!
You can reach the location by car/scooter only from Ágios
Spirídonas (from East). Park your vehicle at the roadside near the
monastery. From Acharávi (from West) the island is only accessible
by bike or by foot.
