Hubell (Hubeil) Family Plot
York Township, Fulton County Ohio

As we got to know our way around Wauseon, (way before we started geocaching), we noticed something at this intersection. A little metal sign set in the ground. Turned out it was a G.A.R. sign marking the location of a soldier who fought in the War of 1812. The D.A.R. noted this soldier is buried here according to records at the Wauseon Courthouse.

But that was a few years ago, and some time ago even that grave marker went missing. We came to learn that this was the location of a small family plot. Most abandoned cemeteries have their dead moved to newer neighboring burial grounds. But sadly this one gradually disappeared as time passed, and the few buried here appear to have never been relocated. All remnants of this tiny cemetery seem to have vanished. The only information that Fulton County is that this York Twp. cemetery was known as either Hubell or Hubeil.

The Daughters Of The American Revolution, they kept up the remembrance of the War of 1812 Soldier resting here. Hopefully this little cache will honor those here, and those who fought for our country in any of the many times we needed to defend our own freedom, and the freedom of others. If any locals stop you on the way, be sure they know a soldier who needs to be honored lies here at this intersection.
