Geocache Description:

The Empire presents… AC/DC Lane. The sixth cache by The Empire celebrates the Australian rock band formed in Sydney in 1973 by Scottish-born brothers Malcolm and Angus Young.

AC/DC have sold more than 200 million albums worldwide, including 71 million albums in the United States. Their album ‘Back in Black’ has sold an estimated 45 million units worldwide, making it the highest-selling album by any band and the 2nd highest-selling album in history, behind "Thriller" by Michael Jackson. The album has sold 22 million in the US alone, where it is the fifth-highest-selling album. AC/DC ranked fourth on VH1's list of the "100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock" and was named the seventh "Greatest Heavy Metal Band of All Time" by MTV. In 2004, the band was ranked number 72 in the Rolling Stone list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time".

Angus Young

The music video for "It's A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll)", was filmed on 23 February 1976 for the Australian music television program Countdown. It featured the band's then-current line-up, along with members of the Rats of Tobruk Pipe Band, on the back of a flat-bed truck travelling on Swanston Street in Melbourne.

Brian Johnson

On the 1st of October 2004, Corporation Lane, was renamed AC/DC Lane in honour of the band. However, the City of Melbourne forbade the use of the slash character in street names, so the four letters were combined. One month after the renaming, a lightning bolt was erected above and below the street sign. The lighting bolt was removed at a later date. Melbourne's Lord Mayor , John So launched AC/DC Lane with the words, "As the song says, there is a highway to hell, but this is a laneway to heaven. Let us rock." Bagpipers then played "It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll)."
