Seen this many times when passing by this spot but never
bothered to have a look till today. This is an old sign standing on
the border between the Orange Free State and Natal before the
change over to the new names. The sign shows all the popular
holiday destinations of the time and the major routes.

As a matter of interest, look at the cement circle at the base of
the wall to the left, there is a geodetic disc to be seen.
The sign is best accessed from the Free State side heading South
on the N3. There is a turnoff just before the sign that takes you
into Van Reenen and to a filling station where weary travelers can
grab a bite to eat and fill up the tank. This would suit cachers
traveling North on the N3 from where it a short walk to the cache
site. Cachers traveling south can either go to the filling station
or park in the lay by right by the sign.
Enjoy a small piece of our past and enjoy your trip.
* Note this was a spur of the moment cache as I was not planning
on putting one down. Heavy mist forced me to take a break and I
grabbed an old logsheet from an archived cache to make this one up.
So ignore the scratched out names. The co-ordinates may be out due
to the heavy mist but once you are there it is obvious what you are
looking for.*
