Geocache Description:

this is a quiet roadside stop with little bit of earth history

3,800,000,000 geologists estitate that Granitic Gneiss rock
formations were created by volcanic activity in the area. These gray, red and pinkish colored rocks created by the lava pushing up deforming the earth in the area and creating mountains four miles high. For hundreds of thousands of years water and glacier movement eroded the mountains away to the now day
river valley area.

The last glacier movement created lake Agassiz. The lake was was a huge body of water, which at times covering areas totaling over 110,000 square miles with depths up to 600-700 feet deep . Lake Agassiz drained in a variety of directions over the years. 9,900-9,200 years ago, Lake Agassiz drained through the Minnesota River Valley. Lake Agassiz overtopped a moraine dam (near present day Browns Valley) and an outlet river was created. This outlet, called Glacial River Warren, drained south and carved thepresent day Minnesota River Valley.

On the south side of the river and a few miles east ,archeologist have discovered such things as spearheads, knives, hide scrapers and other stone tools in association with extinct forms of bison. The finding of these item have been reported to date back to 6400 years ago.
