Geocache Description:

The 11th installment in the Boys of Summer Series revolves around Dick Sipek. Dick played Outfield for the Cincinnati Reds during the 1945 season. Although this was his only season in the Bigs, he did appear in 82 games while hitting a respectable .244 average.

Anybody who has played baseball can attest to the fact that the sound the ball makes when it hits the bat is a good indication as to how hard it is hit. Now imagine how difficult it would be to play without the aid of sound. That is what makes Dick Sipek's accomplishments so special. He is one of only four Deaf players to ever play in the Major Leagues. I have read other accounts that he was just as special off the field. Being a very humble man, he loved to share his knowledge and also some good stories with the children in the Quincy area.

Waypoint #1 will take you to the final resting place of Dick Sipek. At this location you will need the following information. Directly North of Dick's headstone is another stone. When was Gertrude born?
Aug. AB, CDEF

The final cache is located in an area very apropos for a former 2 sport athlete in high school. The cache is a small container only large enough for a log, so bring your own writing utensil. It is located at:
