Geocache Description:

A Night Cache in a spooky wood with some chatty owls, set as a fun challenge for Rory's 9th birthday. The route is less than a mile.

You can only do this cache in the dark. You will need a good torch - holding it at head height (or using a head torch) might make it easier.
You will also often need wellies, as these tracks get very churned up by horses etc.
Park at N51 03.501, W001 06.076, The entrance to Wood Farm - Confirm the position of your car with your GPS - These woods are very easy to get lost in !

Once parked, cross the road and enter the woods. Go to the clearing at N51 03.521, W001 06.079, stand by the hollow tree and look for a 'sign'. (If you see nothing, you may have a weak torch, or the first sign might have gone. Either way, test each path for no more than 20 paces to find the sign.)

The walk starts off on one of the narrower paths, but you will quickly find yourself on a wide, well managed track, (if often rather muddy). The rest of the trail is on good tracks. Please do not wander away from the paths.

Once you have found the cache, get back onto the wide track and carry on in the same direction as you were going in before you noticed the cache site. There are a couple of forks - If in doubt, take the wider path. In about 0.2 of a mile, you will reach the road.

This route is currently very clearly marked, but the markers do deteriorate a bit over time (about half of them were placed in Nov 2009, and were still going strong in Aug 2010), and crucial trees are cut down ! The density of the markers in Aug 2010 was high, so as time goes on the trail will still be usable, but will get a bit trickier. In any event, if you have been walking for more than a minute without guidance, you may have missed something.

We hope that you enjoy this night cache as much as we enjoyed planning it, and please let us know if more appear locally, as we want to do more !
