This cache is placed as a tribute to David Lee Petry, a retired Portland Police Officer, Undercover Narcotics Investigator, S.E.R.T. Team Member, and a friend to many. Dave received many commendations over the years for his excellent service to the community. He took many 'bad guys' off the street and tried hard to turn around the lives of those in trouble with the law. Dave especially enjoyed training and working with sniffer dogs with the Portland Canine Unit, and had the very first Portland Police sniffer dog, Peggy, a black lab, who worked alongside Dave until her death. After retirement, Dave acquired a yellow lab, Justice, who happily accompanied him on several geocaching adventures. 'DirtyOldDave' and 'Just Dawg' were quite a team. Dave passed away on Thanksgiving Day, 2008, as Justice sat by his side. He is missed.
