Le petit lavoir de Vantoux

Vantoux, vieux village de vignerons aux portes de Metz, conserve un
magnifique lavoir. Il daterait de la fin du XVIIème siècle. Il a
été rénové et est aujourd’hui joliment fleuri. Il constitue
l’âme du petit patrimoine lorrain. Il a été opérationnel
jusqu’en 1985.
En Lorraine, il était coutume pour les dames de faire la lessive au
lavoir communal le lundi. Cette simple tradition leur permettait
ainsi de se libérer du temps en faisant réchauffer pour le repas du
lundi les restes du déjeuner dominical. Les villageoises lorraines
laissaient alors tout bonnement cuire sur un coin du fourneau un
pot-au-feu qui mijotait pendant la lessive.

Vantoux old village vineyards on the outskirts
of Metz, retains a beautiful laundrette. They would date from the
late seventeenth century. It has been renovated and is now
flowering beautifully. It is the soul of small heritage Lorraine.
It was operational until 1985.
In Lorraine, it was customary for women to wash clothes in the
communal laundry on Monday. This simple tradition and allowed them
to free up time by reheat for lunch Monday the remains of Sunday
lunch. Lorraine left the village then simply cooked on a corner of
the stove a pot-au-fire that was simmering in the laundry.
