Geocache Description:

Woooo Hooooo! After five years got a new cache in the Little Big Econ State Forest (LBESF). It's been out there for close to a year so it should be nice and grown over for the FTF. It is a great hike out here that you can start on Lockwood Blvd or the Barr Street Trailhead.

I don't know what the real name of this pond is but I decided to name it after one of my Florida ancestors. Madam Joe was the aunt of my great great grand mother. Joe and Madam Joe Atzeroth, first permanent settlers of Terra Ceia Island. With their daughter Eliza,a physician friend, and dog Bonaparte, they arrived via Tampa in1843. Living first in a tent, then a palmetto thatched hut, they finally built a two-room log cabin. They grew tobacco and vegetables and sold them to the garrison at Ft. Brooke (Tampa). In 1880 Madam Joe received a $10 award from President Rutherford Hayes for growing the first pound of coffee in the United States.

After The War Between the States the Secretary of State of the Confederacy, Judah P. Benjamin, was escaping through Bradenton.Northern occupiers knew he was in the area and thought he might be dressed as a woman. They saw Madam Joe and thought it was Benjamin. When they tried to arrest her she let them have it. From reading family history she was a tough, no nonsense woman. She scared the heck out of them. That probably helped Benjamin escape because they didn't want to run into Madam Joe again.

Posted coordinates will take you to a pill bottle with coordinates to a well stocked ammo can. It will be at least a three mile hike or you can paddle to it if the river is up.
