Geocache Description:

This cache is to be the first, I hope in a series based on irrigation pumping stations along the Murray River.
The Golden Heights Pumping Station is one of many pumping stations along the Mighty Murray River. This particular pumping station is managed by the Riverland West Local Action Planning Association that was established in February 1996.

The association manage an area that covers an area of approximately 280,000 hectares extending on both sides of the River Murray from Lock 1 in Blanchetown to Lock 3 at Kingston-on-Murray and manages the irrigation for annual horticultural production of predominantly grapes and citrus worth approximately $145 million dollars. That’s a lot of oranges and grapes.
The Golden Heights Pumping Station was recently upgraded at a cost of a quarter of a million dollars. The original pump of fifty years has been replaced with three new modern pumps and will significantly reduce power costs and have the ability to pump from zero to nine hundred liters second. This will bring many benefits to the local growers who in the past all had to irrigate at the same time.

The cache it’s self is a regular container with log book, stashnote, pen and some small swaps.
Please be careful when retrieving the cache especially if attempting in the dark as GZ is close to the river’s edge.
