At the posted coordinates you will find some interesting information on the Blanchetown Water Supply Scheme and the story of the historic settlement of Moorundie named after a local Aboriginal tribe with parts of it later surveyed named the village of Sturt. If lucky you will also find the cache [;)]
.
Lock 1 is located at Blanchetown and was the first of the 13 locks and weirs built on the Murray, it was completed in 1922. The lock chamber is approximately 17 by 83 meters. The original purpose was to facilitate navigation for trade along the Murray, but by the time the weirs had been built, trade was declining. The primary purposes now are for recreational boating and to maintain water levels for irrigation. The pool upstream of the weir is 3.6 meters above sea level. It is 274 km from the Murray Mouth.
It’s a great place to spend a little time and admire where you get a wonderful view of the lock, river, manicured river banks and local bird life.
You are looking for a micro cache with enough room for a log book, pencil and stash note.
