もともと麻布にありました自治大学が
平成１５年　４月　１日 立川に移転してきました。
自治大学とは
戦後、新しい憲法の制定により「地方自治の本旨」に基づく地方自治制度が確立され、地方行政の民主的、能率的運営を図るため、地方行政の運営を直接担う地方公共団体の職員に対する高度の研修を行う機関が必要とされました。このような中で、地方公共団体の要請に応えて、自治大学校設置法が制定され、昭和２８年１０月、自治大学校は、地方公務員に対する我が国唯一の中央研修機関として設置されました。
