Le rocher du Serre de la Roue commémore un événement sanglant qui eu lieu pendant les guerres de religion. En effet, le Serre de la Roue était un lieu de retranchement des protestants. En 1709, toute la noblesse du pays les découvre et les massacre alors qu'ils célébraient leur culte : une macabre histoire qui rappelle l'importance de l'affrontement entre protestants et catholiques dans le nord de l'Ardèche.
De 500 mètres d'altitude pour le bourg principal à 950 mètres d'altitude au Serre de la Roue, le village de Saint-Barthélémy-Grozon présente un habitat dispersé conservant quelques hameaux pittoresques au charme discret et quelques fermes fortifiées à l'allure imposante.
La commune de Saint-Barthélémy-Grozon présente un paysage forestier important avec des essences de pin et de châtaignier en abondance ; le paysage agricole est représenté par quelques petits élevages de chèvres, vaches et porcs ainsi que par des cultures de fraises, framboises, mûres, abricots et cerises.
Au sommet du Serre la vue est splendide sur toute la plaine de Vernoux et s'étend en particulier vers les Monts D'Ardèche, Le Coiron et le Tanargue et, de l'autre côté de la vallée du Rhône, le Vercors et par beau temps les Alpes.
En été vous trouverez là un coin super pour pique-niquer à l'ombre de magnifiques pins.
Pour trouver la cache se rendre au Wpt 1 qui est le parking véhicules puis se diriger à pied au Wpt 2 en prenant la direction de St Barthélémy; Au Wpt 2 continuer tout droit toujours en direction de St Barthélémy par le Serre de la Roue et vous arriverez quelques minutes aprés au Wpt 3. Il vous suffit de suivre les indications votre GPS fera le reste pour les derniers 400 m.!
Il faut compter environ 2,5 km aller/retour et 130 m. de dénivelé pour l'ensemble de la balade.
Les «accros» de 4X4 pourront aller au Wpt 2 sans problème mais plus difficilement au Wpt 3 avec leur engins.

The rock of "Serre de la Roue" commemorates a bloody event that occurred during the wars of religion. In fact, the "Serre de la Roue" was a gathering of Protestants.
In 1709, all the nobility of the country discovers them and massacres them while they celebrated their worship : Macabre history which calls back the importance of the confrontation between Protestants and Catholics in the North of the Ardèche.
From 500 metres in height for the main village to 950 metres in height in "Serre de la Roue" , the village of Saint-Barthélémy-Grozon presents a scattered housing environment preserving some picturesque hamlets in the discreet charm and some farms strengthened in the stately behaviour.
The commune of Saint-Barthelemy-Grozon has a large forest landscape with pine trees and chestnut trees in abundance. The agricultural landscape is represented by some small breedings of goats, cows and porks as well as by cultures of strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, apricots and cherries.
At the summit of "Serre" the view is magnificent on all the plain of Vernoux and extends in particular towards the Mountains of Ardèche, Coiron and Tanargue and, on the other side of the valley of the Rhône, the Vercors and by good weather the Alps.
In summer you will find a great place there to picnic in the shade of magnificent pines.
To find the hiding place go to Wpt 1 which is the car park vehicles then go on foot in Wpt 2 by taking the direction of StBarthélémy; At Wpt 2 always go straight towards St Barthélémy by the Serre de la Roue and you arrive a few minutes after at the WPT 3." You just have to follow the indications and your GPS will make the rest for the last ones 400 m.!
Total distance (round trip): 2.5 kilometers with + 130 mètres.
The "Addicts" of 4X4 will go to WPT 2 without problem, but more difficult to WPT 3 with their gear."
