Located in Forest Park (which is an extension of Parker Mills County Park) on the Hoyt Post Memorial Trail. Park at either Parker Mills (waypoint marked) or Gallup Park (waypoint marked) and follow Gallup Trail to the Hoyt Post trail head. Please do not leave the boardwalk. Placed with permission of Washtenaw County Parks.
The Hoyt Post Trail travels through a floodplain. A floodplain is an area that is covered with water when a nearby creek or river overflows its banks. Both Fleming Creek (which the Hoyt Post Trail follows) and the Huron River flood this area. Each cycle leaves rich sediments which build up over time. These soils, known as alluvium, support a rich plant life. Because the alluvium forest is moister and warmer (because it is near water), plants and trees normally found in more Southerly locations, can thrive here. Slow down and enjoy this unique area.
It is because of this rich plant life that I have placed the cache within 5 feet of the boardwalk.
