Geocache Description:

Aspire – Le Mountain, a cache formerly known as Le Mountain Tour de Redding (GCJDV9 - see this log for original visit logs and photos.). This is a new cache that has survived a forest fire and will reward visitors with amazing vistas. Be sure to check out the fire retardant on the ammo can! Bring your camera!

NOTE 1-10-10

ShastaBlue2 has reported the gate to the summit locked today. I have never seen this locked though there was a time when private vehicles were restricted. Aspiring to go up? Drive to the gate and check it out. Locked? Many ride bikes up the road. . . .

Aspire? This name was added because to visit this cache you must aspire to travel up South Fork Mountain. This was made more difficult in 2008 when the mountain burned and the road was closed to permit logging. The road opened in November 2009. You may drive the road but to truly make this an adventure, ride your bike. I like this ride and the fire certainly made the vistas more grand by clearing some of the dense brush.

Aspire? When the former puzzle cache had the puzzle aspect removed (you had to visit 12 caches to unlock this cache box), powers that be said it had to be a new cache. OK, what to name it?

This year two friends Aspired and Achieved great things. Llafuz earned his Eagle Rank in Boy Scouts. His prize is hidden in a location near this cache. As it is not a cache, more a personal gift, the coordinates will go to him only. A sort of geo-congratulations! Another friend and Reddingite, Nancy (PCT trail name “Why Not”) completed hiking the 2600 mile long Pacific Crest Trail. Vistas such as this were a big part of her life and I lived the hike through her blogs.

You will need to purchase a Whiskeytown Park Parking permit at the lake overlook if you plan on parking and riding your bike up the South Fork Mountain Lookout road. No permit is needed if you drive to the cache.

Le Mountain Tour de Redding was the culmination of a Baker’s Dozen of caching travels. To achieve this truly grand prize, you had to visit 12 caches hidden along challenging biking trails. Adding Le Mountain Tour de Redding to your collection confirmed you had experienced some of the finest trails the Redding area has to offer. Bagging Aspire – Le Mountain, means you don’t have to work so hard to experience this grand vista.

Thanks TarpMan for sharing this adventure, you're the best. And, thank you GiantJake of KRCR TV, channel 7, for letting me introduce you to caching when we documented the placing of the original cache for broadcast.

FTF (Congrats tchas) Bandana awaits the first to find this new cache. The container and contents are the same as Le Mountain Tour de Redding.

Remember: “It’s all about the journey” and “If it were easy, it wouldn’t be fun.”

Carpe Diem, Carpe Geocachiem. . .MtnMike
