A short walk from the Lockerbrook Outdoor Education Centre. Nearest parking is at the Fairholmes Visitor Centre, in the Derwent Valley. Waymarked footpaths lead from there up (it's a stiff climb) to Lockerbrook.
This is the first Cache-hide by the Sutton Centre Community College - Duke of Edinburgh Award Group. We are doing geocaching as part of our Silver Expedition Award.
The Cache is named in memory of one of our students who tragically died in 2006 at the beginning of year 8. she had stayed at the Lockerbrook Outdoor Education Centre (nearby) the previous summer. Her best friend is a member of our group, and she has happy memories of that time; she still really misses her.
Please DO NOT drive up to the Lockerbrook Centre. The only motorised vehicles allowed up to Lockerbrook are those belonging to the Forestry Commision, and staff and customers of the Lockerbrook Centre. All other motorised vehicles are prohibited.
Once at Lockerbrook, walk a further 200m North up the lane before following a broken wall that runs West up the hill. Do not be tempted to cut straight through the woods! They are thickly planted, and you will not be able to pass through!
The cache is a clear plastic 'click' box of the sandwich variety, and contains the usual assortment of trinkets; some keyrings, a compass,and a sea-shell, plus, of course the obligatory notebook and pen!
