Small cache underneath Swansea's Brunel-designed Viaduct.
*CACHE MOVED 20/05/10* The Landore viaduct is a railway viaduct over the Swansea valley and the River Tawe at Landore in south Wales. It provides a link between Swansea city centre and the West Wales Line to the South Wales Main Line. The valley crossing provides a panoramic view of Landore, Kilvey Hill, the Liberty Stadium and the Swansea Enterprise Park. The viaduct dates as far back as 1850. Originally, it was 563m long structure designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. The original structure incorporated a diverse range of structural design elements and was constructed in timber - reputedly made Canadian Pitch Pine, and cost £20,000. The only surviving elements of Brunel's original design still to be seen are four arched stone piers alongside the Neath Road. The other piers and main central span date from 1888-89 and bear the inscription "Edward D. Finch & Co. Steel Builders, Chepstow 1889". These are made from wrought-iron. Further modifications occurred when the eastern end of the viaduct was embanked and the remainder re-decked with steel fabricated beams in 1978/9. To reach the cache you have plenty of options for free parking around the Liberty Stadium and Morfa retail park. To get to the cache, follow the footpath by the KFC side of the river, or alternatively you can come at it from the footbridges by Beaufort Road. The path is all flat going and suitable for wheelchair users and prams, so long as you join it from the footbridge (otherwise it's a quick hop down a bank from the car park). The cache may be tricky to reach from a wheelchair, however, as branches may get in the way. GPS was being rubbish when I placed it, so I have included a detailed hint if the co-ords are a bit off. The cache is a small clip lock box, room for small swaps and trackables
