Geocache Description:

Dave Ulmer prepared and placed the first geocache in the world.

The credit for the world's first GPS goes to the American Department of Defense.

In 1973 DOD decided to develop a satellite navigation system.

The system was originally developed to work with 24 satellites and in 1980 the first 'Block I' satellite was launched.
It took until 1994 for all 24 satellites to be launched and the system to be fully functional.

Some GPS facts:

The proper name of the system is NAVSTAR or Navigation System for Timing and Ranging.

There are now over 30 satellites that orbit the earth at a distance of 20200 km.

Each satellite weighs 1,900 pounds and is about the size of a small car.

At least four satellites are always in touch with every point on the planet.

The first major use of the GPS on a commercial level was by the trucking industry.

Currently Wal-Mart is the world's largest retailer but it all started with one store created by Sam Walton.

Sam Walton's retail career began on June 03, 1940 when he accepted a job working for JC Penney.

In 1945 Sam Walton opened his own store in Bentonville, Arkansas called Walton's Five and Dime.

In 1962 Sam Walton founded Wal-Mart and opened the first store in Rogers, Arkansas.

On October 31, 1969 the company was incorporated as Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.

Walmart is one of the popular places for hiding/seeking geocaches
