Ike Winchester Traditional Cache

Located next to a "lake" between Winchester Boulevard and the Myakka State Forest.
Along the three miles or so of Winchester Boulevard that is finished, there is a beautiful sidewalk. It's about ten feet wide and is at least twenty feet from the road, making it safe for walkers and cyclists. There is good parking on either end of the road, and a safe place to pull over within 500 feet of the cache. This may be an easy park and grab for some, but it is meant to give a little impetus to take a walk and enjoy nature. During our short stay, we were able to see several jumping fish, the unmistakable shape of an alligator swimming, and many birds. For those of you who like to cache after dark, maybe this one should wait until dawn since you are not the only nocturnal creatures here. In honor of Dwight D. Eisenhower and his "System of Interstate and Defense Highways," this cache will start with an "Ike dollar" among a few other odds and ends. Starting in 1956 our government created a systems of roads stretching over 45,000 miles and touching almost every major city. Though Winchester Boulevard is not a part of this limited access system, the importance of this road is great as it is the official evacuation route for all of the Cape Haze peninsula and our gateway to I-75 and our connection with the rest of the country. We found this to be a good spot for a quick picnic. As always in Florida, watch out for the red ants (and gators).
