This is an easily accessible cache not far from the popular Bovisand bay. It is all on public footpaths, but is not particularly easy to get to with push/wheelchairs.
This is a small film canister containing only a small logbook and pencil. This is a location I have had my eye on for a cache for sometime, but it took me a while to find a suitable hiding place. Please take care not to disturb the hiding place too much.
LENTNEY BATTERY
This was one of three batteries of six inch guns on the east side of the Sound. It was completed in 1905 and by 1910 it had been put into reserve though its guns were not removed until about 1930. During the Second World War the battery was re-armed with six inch breech loading guns. The battery was used for training by the training regiment based in Fort Staddon. This training role continued post war and the guns were removed again in 1956. The site was released to the owners in 1991.
The battery is of interest because it is the last complete example of this type of battery in the area and most of its features, internal and external, including shell hoists etc (apart from the artillery hardware) still survive. (Many thanks to Hobo and Miss for this information, who bumped into the owner on their visit).
