Geocache Description:

Beer glass

Located in the heart of the Warren Village, this building originally housed the Lutz Wagon Repair. With the invention of automobiles and modern farm equipment, wagons were no longer needed for farms or transport. The repair service closed and the building was expanded and transformed into a hardware store. The owners sold all the things you would find in a local hardware, tools, building, electrical and plumbing supplies, household items, food preservation equipment and brewing supplies.

Then one day another change came about for this establishment. Everyone's heard about the big box stores that come into a small town putting the locals out of business. That, in a way, is what happened to owners of the hardware store. A Big Box hardware warehouse opened up just a half-mile from their store. The owners decided they couldn’t compete against the big box store and faced the dilemma of closing up for good or changing direction.
They decided to expand upon their personal interest and altered the building again into a seven-barrel microbrewery and brew-on-premises shop. It may sound like an odd transition, but the owners have been active home brewers for some time and sold brewing supplies out of the hardware for many years. The business has prospered and grown into one of Michigan’s largest craft breweries.
