This cache is planted off of Tom the Tinker's Trail in Kane Wood. You'll find it approximately 45-50 feet off of the trail. Its a Lock N' Lock container.
Because we're adventurous people, my girlfriend and I decided that for our two-year anniversary, we would go geocaching! She hadn't been out before, but thought it sounded like a big bag of awesome-sauce, so there we were.
Our first pick-up together was in Kane's Woods in Scott Township, so that's where we hid our first cache, too! We picked a spot off of Tom The Tinker's trail because we thought it was nice, and there wasn't one there yet. Recommend parking at the Scrubgrass Run trailhead, though it'll be accessible from any. Terrain difficulty goes up if you use others.
We planted this in the fall, obviously, so bushwhacking may be a thing in the spring or summer. You may need to go through some snow in the winter. Otherwise, its just a short distance to the drop from the trail.
Almost everything inside has something to do with us.
- Logbook/Pen (Blue/Red for our college, where we met)
- Lottery Ticket for FTF (just for fun)
- Hot Wheels Camaro (because it, like us, is awesome)
- Pirate Eye-Patch (we like pirates)
- Pittsburgh Penguins Keychain (our favorite team)
- Snoopy Dog Collar (we want a dog, but can't get one at the moment)
- Heart bandages (because we have hearts. Also for anyone who has suffered from jaggerbushes or "geofalls")
- Little bear figurine from a gumball machine (we wanted the pig, but we got the bear. Oh well).
Make sure you check out the 3 other caches in this big and beautiful forest (in the middle of suburbia, even!) - the Neville Trail cache, the Whiskey Boys cache, and the Scott Police cache. If you look at the locations, you could come up with an easy little circuit that'll take you in a circle from start to finish.
I spoke to one of the important people in Scott Conservancy (ran into her in the trail) and while she doesn't know much about geocaching, she loves that people are doing it in Kane Woods. Enjoy!
