Geocache Description:

The cache is hidden off the River to Rodeo Trail near the junction of Irene Rhinehart trail and the Rotary Park trail. It is just off the paved trail so it is not accessible to wheelchairs.

The bridge between these parks just opened in October 2009. Mr. Rock 'n' Roll Hunter was heavily involved in the project, which has been long awaited for almost 10 years. The bridge is a refurbished railroad car...see if you can find the original plaque.

You can access the geocache from any of the following parks with the first listing being the closest:

Irene Rhinehart Riverfront Park - off Umptanum Road and I-90, 117 acres, boat landing, lake swimming, sand volleyball, picnic and barbecue facilities, hiking/biking trails, grass areas

Rotary Park - 1200 W 5th, 72 acres, Multi-use fields, 2 full-sized softball fields, 2 full-sized baseball fields, 4 youth baseball fields, walking trail, play structure, bathroom and parking lot

West Ellensburg Neighborhood Park - 900 W. Third Ave., 6 acres, Picnic shelter, children's play structure, tennis court, restrooms**, 4 Youth baseball fields, 2 full sized softball fields, 2 full sized baseball fields, walking/bike trail

Visit the City of Ellensburg's website for more information: (visit link)

Cachers on wheels can actually roll from our Rodeo grounds all the way to Irene Rhinehart on asphalt. You could grab many caches along the way. So if you're feeling energetic, it is 2.3 miles from the rodeo grounds to Irene Rhinehart. Don't forget to bring your hikers, fishing pole, and swimming suit though. Then you can hike around Irene Rhinehart for an extra 2.6 miles.

Irene Rhinehart is a fantastic area for kids as well as our four-legged friends. Great place for bird watching and other wildlife. There is one pond for swimming and another for the pooches. Dogs are not allowed in the grassy picnic areas. The Yakima River borders the park and you will see many fisherman reeling in their catch. If you are accessing Irene Rhinehart from Umptanum Rd., the paved road into the park is seasonal, but you can hike (or x-country ski or snowshoe) all year-round throughout the park. Beware of flooding in the spring.
