Looks like some locals did not want this road to be used as a short cut, so they put up a gate to restrict traffic to residents only. Unfortunately, they placed the gate so that it blocks access to the parking lot for the preserve. Have no fear for we came up with a solution. There is a place to park just south of the gate and since there is almost no traffic, crossing the street is a breeze. Make your way to the “Trail Head” and go to the right of the fence. You can come back this way OR head to the original parking lot and cross back through the gate that blocks traffic.
Make sure you bring plenty of water and maybe long pants.
The trail is open from dawn to dusk, and I recommend not going during the "twilight" hours, lest you prefer to get close and personal with the local wildlife, including the occasional mountain lion that I saw when placing this cache! I think they like the creek as a great source of water. The creek is named on my topographical map as a non-named "intermittent" stream. Just two weeks out of knee surgery I found myself hobbling down the trail (as briskly as possible after seeing the mountain lion) and humming the old song by The Band, "Down On Cripple Creek". Thus, a non-named intermittent stream finally gets a name. Cache is loaded with swag, so... enjoy! CONGRATS to brinnt on another FTF !!!
