Looks like some locals did not want this road to be used as a short cut, so they put up a gate to restrict traffic to residents only. Unfortunately, they placed the gate so that it blocks access to the parking lot for the preserve. Have no fear for we came up with a solution. There is a place to park just south of the gate and since there is almost no traffic, crossing the street is a breeze. Make your way to the “Trail Head” and go to the right of the fence. You can come back this way OR head to the original parking lot and cross back through the gate that blocks traffic.
Make sure you bring plenty of water and maybe long pants.
Enjoy hiking and seeing the other side of Rock Mountain! As Lanyard Knot and I were hiking and enjoying the "backside" of Rock Mountain, LK thought this would be a great place to stash one of DevilDog's ammo cans. Thus, it is "down and further out" on Cripple Creek than the "Down on Cripple Creek" cache. Enjoy a cache w lots of swag including some hand-made key fobs by Lanyard Knot himself ( a truly collectable item) as well as a trackable geocoin. Trail is open from dawn to dusk only. CONGRATS to brinnt on another FTF !
