Geocache Description:

This is one of a series of caches created for the purpose of introducing geocachers to the rich history, the extensive path network and the general scenic beauty of the Irvine Valley.

Mega Scotland 2014
The cache is at a bridge over the Burn Anne which was recently subject to a multi million pound flood defence improvement programme. Close by is Barr Castle where reformists John Knox and George Wishart both preached in the sixteenth century. In the long and distant past there was a unique form of handball played against the castle wall and we are reliably informed that a Galston team was at one time the world champions. Near to the bridge there is also a small memorial cairn that is dedicated to the men and boys of Galston and Loudoun parishes who were killed in the coal mining industry. Open and without cover so stealth is required.
