It's hard to believe
but it's that time again, the 2010 New Years Resolution Event is
not far off. The event is scheduled for January 9th 2010 @ 10am.
Unfortunately due to
the extreme weather conditions across the country we are postponing
the event for safety reasons. The event is rescheduled for
Saturday January 30th. Please update your attendance
log if necessary and keep an eye on the event page in case we need
to reschedule again.
The walk this
year starts and finishes in Ballinastoe woods just outside
Roundwood Co. Wicklow. We will make our way from the car park along
the fire road turning up into the forest and making our way along a
track that will bring us along the perimeter of the forest, with
the slopes of Djouce Mountain and White Hill on our right hand
side. From here we will follow a stony track and meet up with the
Wicklow Way which will bring us to the JB Malone memorial where
the "Thanks
JB!" cache can be grabbed. We then follow
the sleeper track back to the forest and talk the fire road back to
the car park.
The walk is about 7K
(we can cut half a k off that using a shortcut!) with only a 270M
accent. The whole loop should take less then 2.5hrs and is a very
easy walk, so don't let the 7K scare you! The only up hilly bit is
when we will make our way from the fire road up through the forest,
but it's an easy slope up. I would recommended bringing a good pair
of walking shoes, warm clothes and some wet gear.
We'll be meeting at
the above coordinates at 10am sharp, with the departure 15 minutes later. Cars can be parked
in this location and security will be provided by our very own
Hezekiah.
For those not
wishing to do the walk you can meet us in the Coach House in
Roundwood at approximately 1PM to 1.30PM for food and drink where
you can claim your attendance for the event.
I have created a
bookmark list with caches that could be visited on the way to
the event or after the event. Some caches may be a bit of a
distance from the event, but they are in and around roads that lead
to the event. I'm going to include caches that may take a bit of
time to do for those who might not want to do the walk.
