This series of caches is placed by the 2010 Grade 8 graduating class of Central Baptist Academy. Vancouver is hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics, so we decided to place a series of caches to commemorate this occasion. Each cache introduces one of the Olympic events. All caches are hidden along a well-travelled section of the Gordon Glaves Memorial Pathway. Bring a pencil and beware of Muggles! Park across the street at the D'Aubigny Soccer fields parking lot or along Shellard Lane.
We ask that you trade fair, "TRADE UP OR TRADE EVEN"! By continuing to play the game this way, other cachers might have a chance to enjoy finding a trackable or other geocaching swag when they visit this cache.
*ICE HOCKEY*
The word hockey comes from the French word "hocquet" meaning stick.
It is thought that the British soldiers invented the game of hockey by using a stick to move a snowball across the ice of a pond or lake around the 1600's or 1700's in North America.
Students at McGill University, in Montreal, Quebec, organized and made the first set of hockey rules back in 1879.
Men's hockey was introduced in the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp, and then permanently moved to the Winter Olympics in 1924. Women's hockey first became an Olympic event in 1998 at the Nagano Winter Olympics.
At the 2010 Winter Olympics, hockey games will be played on an ice surface that is four metres narrower than International rinks. This is a huge change, but the decision was based on research into the cost of changing NHL arenas to International size for the Olympics, and then back to NHL dimensions following the Olympics.

This paved trail is wheelchair and stroller friendly except near ground zero, as all caches in the series have been hidden a few metres off the trail.
It becomes a significant hike when you make it round-trip. You will find it much quicker by bike. You may even enjoy cross country skiing this trail as another option.
