How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

This series of caches is placed by the 2010 Grade 8 graduating class of Central Baptist Academy. Vancouver is hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics, so we decided to place a series of caches to commemorate this occasion. Each cache introduces one of the Olympic events. All caches are hidden along a well-travelled section of the Gordon Glaves Memorial Pathway. Bring a pencil and beware of Muggles! Park across the street at the D'Aubigny Soccer fields parking lot or along Shellard Lane.

We ask that you trade fair, "TRADE UP OR TRADE EVEN"! By continuing to play the game this way, other cachers might have a chance to enjoy finding a trackable or other geocaching swag when they visit this cache.

*LUGE*
The word "luge" is from the French meaning "sled."

"The Great International Sled Race," as it was called, was held in Switzerland in 1883. Peter Minsch of Switzerland and George Robertson of Australia raced to the bottom of a four kilometre track, but strangely enough, the race ended in a tie . . . 9 minutes and 15 seconds after it started.

Today, athletes regularly travel at a speed of 140 kilometres an hour.

Luge for men, women and doubles made its Olympic debut at the 1964 Games in Innsbruck.

This event differs from Skeleton in that athletes lay on their backs on a lightweight fiberglass sled and go down the track feet first. Luge racers steer using their legs and shoulders, and brake by sitting up, putting their feet down and pulling up on the sled runners.
(TB)

This paved trail is wheelchair and stroller friendly except near ground zero, as all caches in the series have been hidden a few metres off the trail.

It becomes a significant hike when you make it round-trip. You will find it much quicker by bike. You may even enjoy cross country skiing this trail as another option.
