Elderberry Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Wood_Rat: Well, stopped by for a welfare check on this cache today. Wow! The area has been scrubbed clean by the aggressive city "gardening."

The Elderberry is long gone as is the mock cherry that used to grow here. The agapanthus have been almost completely removed and the area is no longer interesting, and it is unable to support a sizable cache. It's been a good run, but it's time to archive this one.

Thanks to everyone who has hunted this cache!

For all you swag-hounds, I thought it was time for this area to get a few larger caches.

Elderberry

Yes, the city has cut down and removed the Elderberry that was once here.

Mexican Elderberry (Sambucus mexicana) can be easily identified by its clumps of dusty, dark-blue to black berries when ripe. It is best to avoid the unripe berries, and do not eat the stems or leaves. Large quantities of raw fruit may cause a nasty stomachache, so it is best to cook them, and the berries can be used to make a tasty jam, pies, muffins and wine. They are a good substitute for blueberries in many recipes. Mexican Elderberry is known as nature's medicine chest. The berries can be mixed into tea and are good for rheumatism. The flowers can be used as a vanilla substitute and are sometimes made into a medicinal tea. Mexican Elderberry is native throughout the West Coast States. It tends to grow as a large bush and has hollow stems that have been made into flute like instruments. The Elderberry tree is long gone, taken out by the city a few years ago, but the cache remains hidden in its original location.

You're looking for a camouflaged plastic container. You will need to use stealth at times, as there can be many muggles when the three nearby schools let out.

Please be discreet and don't get caught as you rehide the cache where you found it
