Uma Ilha, por definição, é um prolongamento de relevo ou uma depressão absoluta preenchida por água. Sua etimologia latina, insula, originou o adjectivo insular.

Existem quatro tipos principais de ilhas: ilhas continentais, ilhas oceânicas, ilhas fluviais e ilhas vulcânicas. Também existem algumas ilhas artificiais.

Ilhas Continentais/ Costeiras:: situam-se próximas aos continentes, sendo ligadas aos mesmos através da plataforma continental, como por exemplo as Ilhas Britânicas (Grã-Bretanha, Ilha de Man e Irlanda, entre outras).

Ilhas Oceânicas: são aquelas que se encontram em pleno oceano, distantes dos litorais continentais. São partes emersas de grandes cadeias de montanhas.

Diversas ilhas próximas umas das outras formam um arquipélago, como por exemplo os Açores.

A Groenlândia é, por definição, a maior ilha do mundo. Qualquer porção contínua de terra maior que a Gronelândia, como a Austrália, por exemplo, é considerado "Continente". Ontologicamente não há diferença entre os conceitos de "ilha" e "continente" a não ser a citada: “…até o tamanho da Gronelândia é ilha, maior que isso é continente.”

A maior ilha fluvial do mundo pode ser encontrada na ilha do Bananal, no Brasil e a ilha de Marajó também no Brasil é considerada a maior ilha fluvio-marinha do mundo.

An island or isle is any piece of land that is surrounded by water. Very small islands such as emergent land features on atolls are called islets. A key or cay is another name for a small island or islet. An island in a river or lake may be called an eyot. There are two main types of islands: continental islands and oceanic islands. There are also artificial islands. A grouping of geographically and/or geologically related islands is called an archipelago like Azores.

The word island comes from Old English igland (from 'ig', similarly meaning 'island' when used independently, and -land carrying its contemporary meaning).

Greenland is, by definition, the largest island in the world. Any continuous area of land bigger than Greenland, such as Australia, for example, is considered "continent". Ontologically there is no difference between the concepts of "island" and "continent".
The largest river island in the world can be found on the island of Bananal in Brazil and the island of Marajo also in Brazil is considered the largest island in the river-marine world.

A Cache

Como o nome da cache indica, o conteiner está numa ilha, ilha esta que está localizada na albufeira da Barragem Marechal Carmona. Esta ilha é constituída por alguns eucaliptos e castanheiros e a sua origem resultou de um cabeço de maior altitude que rejeitou ficar submerso.

Nos meses de seca (de Julho a Setembro) é possível ir até à ilha a pé ou de cachemobile mas nos meses mais chuvosos (de Novembro a Abril) o local é completamente rodeado por água e aí têm de usar a vossa imaginação para acederem ao GZ.

Ao chegarem ao ponto zero ou perto só necessitam de levantar uma pedra para aceder à cache. Aproveitem e levem um saco de plástico porque o local merece e bem, um evento para limpar o lixo que os pescadores deixam na ilha e deixo o apelo: SENHORES PESCADORES LEVEM OS PEIXES E O LIXO TAMBÉM.

As the name indicates the container is on an island, this island is located in Marechal Carmona Dam. This island is made up of some eucalyptus and chestnut trees and its origin was the result of a hillock higher altitude rejecting to be immersed.
During the dry season (July to September) you can go to the island on foot or by cachemobile but in the wettest months (November to April) the place is completely surrounded by water and then you have to use your imagination to reach the GZ.
When arriving at or near ground zero you only need to lift a stone to access the cache. Enjoy and please bring a plastic bag because the place deserves an event to clean up the garbage that fishermen leave at the island: DEAR FISHERMENS CATCH THE FISHES AND THE GARBAGE ALSO
