Geocache Description:

This cache is located a short distance from the boardwalk, leading from the parking area. The container is a camoed tobacco container.

In 2004 we celebrated the 400 year anniversary of the first significant settlement in North America on St. Croix Island. Isle Ste-Croix is located at the mouth of the St. Croix River and is the international boundary between the United States and Canada. In the summer of 1604, 80 French colonists led by Pierre Dugua, Sieur de Mons and Samuel de Champlain, established the first colony and attempted to spend their first winter in Nouvelle France. The experiment didn’t end favorably….the rest is history.

A park was built as part of the celebration. There’s ample parking, so stop and explore the grounds, informative display boards, and of course..the view. Sunset here is unbelievable!

My children have enjoyed the geocaching experience and wanted to plant one of their own. I allowed them the honor of filling the cache themselves. Inside you’ll find pins from St. Stephen and St. Andrews, trinkets and tattoos and a craft my daughter made. There's a children's book and even a cassette single! Lastly, there's a travel bug. This bug inspired me to plant the cache at an International Historic Site. May the wind be now at your back, little man!
