Geocache Description:

Plan on two days of canoeing and one night of primitive camping to retrieve this cache. The terrain had light undergrowth with yellow flowers and a gentle incline. The cache is near a primitive campsite.

This part of the Upper Brazos, between Possum Kingdom Lake and Dark Valley Bridge offers some scenery that is most enjoyable, including some tall cliffs, and dense vegetation along the river banks. This gives way to flatter terrain and scrub brush. There are few other hazards on this river other than the winds and the hot Texas summertime temperatures and direct sun exposure. Those can combine to cause dehydration and muscle fatigue, as well as sunburn and windburn. Those negatives aside, the Brazos is the first river many people paddle, particularly because short, relatively safe trips can be taken without great fear of dangerous waters. If you fall out of the boat, then STAND UP!

See the related web page for gear and packing tips. The best time of year to canoe the river is spring and fall when the temperatures are moderate and river levels are higher.

Keep in mind the most common injury on this river is twisted ankles.

Take some fun friends and have a great time canoeing, caching and camping. Like I did.

All property adjacent to the river is "PRIVATE PROPERTY". These caches can only be accessed legally from the river.
