Geocache Description:

This multi-stage has four parts to it. The first is a virtual cache and the last three are traditional.
It will take you for a walk along the length (above and not through) of the Preston Brook Tunnel through which the Trent and Mersey Canal travels for about three quarters of a mile.

Keep your eyes open whilst walking along the length of the tunnel between caches, as you should be able to see four air shafts for the tunnel and also a small sign post (Shardlow 92 Miles/ Preston Brook) which is close to the northern entrance. All these including the tunnel entrances are grade two listed buildings.

I would recommend you park up at the Tunnel Top Public House as it is halfway between the north and south ends of the tunnel, and walk down to the first cache which is at the northern tunnel entrance.
To find the coordinates of the first physical cache you will need to look at the large notice board which provides the rules for the barges to follow when entering the tunnel.

The first physical cache which is a 35mm film cannister is to be found at N53 A.B W2 C.D

A - Subtract 2 from how minutes before the hour the final entry into the tunnel should be made.
B - Subtract 678 from the length of the tunnel in yards.
C - Add 18 to how minutes before the hour the final entry into the tunnel should be made.
D - Subtract 661 from the length of the tunnel in yards.

Within the two intermediate caches you will find the exact coordinates for the next cache along with a clue which is encrypted using the same method as all clues are on the cache pages.

The final cache is a sandwich sized clip lock box which contains a few swaps. FTF is welcome to take any of these as a prize.
