Old punch line was “ gets
handled more”….But I’m going in a different direction
here.
Lenawee County settlements flourished in the early
and mid 1800’s, and most of them
established post offices in order to correspond with friends &
family to the East.
Infant rail services soon provided depots that often doubled as
postal locations. Tiffin, Oakford, Corbus and Harrison are only a
few of the many UnZipped mail drops which have vanished from modern
Lenawee maps.
Some have survived and taken on different names... and they are
now Zipped.
By enticing geocachers with some
‘Smileys’, Corixid will attempt to connect you with the past.
Go to the posted coordinates, that would be in the previous
settlement of Oak Opening, of the Michigan Territory,
to start this series. The Native Americans gave it that name due to
the natural clearing in an otherwise dense Oak forest. Sign in and
take a 'hint' for the next current, or 'use to be
here' , postal location.
