The Haukuppe lies in the woods between Heenes and Biedebach in Hesse, Germany, and has a height of 446 metres above MSL.

This extinct volcano was active at the end of tertiary about 6 million years ago.

The Haukuppe was one of many volcanos which created the middle- and east-hessian landscape and belongs to the Knüll in the lower-hessian depression.

Today you can see only the relic of this volcano:
A small pond with a surrounding earth wall. This pond was the volcano vent.

Characteristic of the hessian volcanos like the Haukuppe is basic basalt.

At the cache location you can see rocks of basalt, e.g. at the earthwall.




To log this cache you have to do the following tasks:
1. What is the diameter of the pond (in metres)?

2. What is the height of the earth wall at its highest point above the water-level of the pond?

3. Please send me an email with your answers. If you want, make a photo of you at the pond (with your GPS-Unit).
Die Haukuppe liegt in den Wäldern zwischen Heenes und Biedebach in Hessen, Deutschland, und hat eine Höhe von 446 Metern ü. NN.

Dieser erloschene Vulkan war vor ca. 6 Millionen Jahren im Tertiär aktiv.

Die Haukuppe war einer der vielen Vulkane, welche die mittel- und osthessische Landschaft schufen und gehört zum Knüll in der Niederhessischen Senke.

Heute könnt ihr nur noch den Rest dieses Vulkans sehen:
Ein kleiner Teich mit einem umgebenden Erdwall. Dieser Teich war der Vulkanschlot.

Charakteristisch für die hessischen Vulkane wie die Haukuppe ist basischer Basalt.

An der Cache-Location könnt ihr Basaltgestein sehen, z.B. an dem Erdwall.



Um den Cache zu loggen, erfüllt folgende Aufgaben:
1. Was ist der Durchmesser des Teiches (in Metern)?

2. Was ist die Höhe des Erdwalls an seinem höchsten Punkt über dem Wasserspiegel des Teiches?

3. Bitte sendet mir eine Email mit euren Antworten. Wenn ihr möchtet, macht ein Foto von euch an dem Teich (mit eurem GPS-Gerät).
