Where Texas Comes Together: The River Is the Reason
The Colorado River runs through the heart of Texas, and through the McKinney Roughs Nature Park, where this cache is located. No bluffing here, you’ll want to loop back to the overlook after locating the cache. You’ll catch a gorgeous view of the Colorado. The cache is stashed well off the main trail.
Be sure to check in at the park headquarters before hiking the trail. There is a $5 per-person fee (free for 12 and under), and they’ll provide you with a trail map. Park hours are 8 AM - 5 PM Monday through Sunday.
Don’t attempt this trail after a heavy rain – the “black gumbo” soil will weigh down your boots in a hurry!
The cache is an ammo box containing a description of the area’s features, a log book, a pencil, and treasures for trading.
Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy a day at this beautiful park!
The cache is placed with the permission of McKinney Roughs. Visit lcra.org/parks/Pages/mckinney-roughs-nature-park.aspx
