Twins Defensive Highlights:
In the bottom of the first inning, with runners (Smith and Wuertz,
respectively) on first and second, Beier hits a grounder to Punto
(playing Second today), who makes a fielder's choice and throws to
Crede, to get the lead runner. Fleck takes a ball. Mauer, seeing
that Smith is slow to get back to the bag at second, throws him out
with an MVP-like throw and an excellent tag applied by Punto.
Weidner bunts toward the third base line, Crede fielding it
cleanly, he throws to Cabrera, the shortstop, covering at third for
the final out of the first inning.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Braun, after hitting the ball to
Cuddyer, thought that he had a double, but Cuddyer, with that
cannon of an arm, cuts him down at second--another great tag by
Punto! Crede, patrolling the hot corner, lays out to steal an
extra-base hit from Bagley. Baker strikes out Cotton to end the
fifth.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Leiser hits a double down the
first base line. Wuertz hits a fly ball to Span who makes a
miraculous catch and fires it in to Cabrera at second to double
Leiser off. Beier hits a lazy fly ball to Cuddyer who puts it away
easily and with it the game.
