Torø – Drejet
 
Land bliver til
 
 
Torø var, som navnet antyder, tidligere en ø. Det er faktisk ikke særlig
længe siden Torø blev landfast med Fyn.
 
Landet mellem Torø og Torø Huse er en meget aktiv geologisk lokalitet med
flere, større marine forlande. Forlandene består af de 3 odder:
Gammel-odde mod Nord, i midten er Ny-odde og mod syd er Torn-odde.
På disse odder viser de talrige strandvolde bestående af sand og sten
at der gennem tiden er sket utallige aflejringer.
 
Gammel-odde og Ny-odde er såkaldte konvergerende odder, der vender mod
hinanden og med tiden vil nå sammen og blive til et vinkelforland,
hvor bugten imellem dem ændrer sig fra salt hav til brak strandsø.
 
Achton Friis (deltager i Danmarks-ekspeditionen i Grønland 1906 – 1908)
besøgte øen i 1922 og beskrev turen fra Fyn til Torø således:
 
”Øen,...adskilles mod øst fra Fyens Kyst ved det knap 500 m brede Thorø Sund.”
 
I 1993 var der stadig en smal rende på ca ½ meter der adskilte de 2 øer.
I 1995 var vandet ved WP 1 og i 2009 var vandet ved WP 2.
Det vil sige at havet er veget ca 200 meter på knap 15 år.

Torø – Drejet
 
New land
 
 
Torø is danish for the Island of Thor (Thor was the Wiking-god).
But now it isn’t an island anymore. Actually it’s not long ago since
the island become a part of Funen.
 
The area between Torø and Torø Huse is a very active foreland. There are 3
tongues of land: At North there is Gammel-odde, in the middle Ny-odde and to
the south Torn-odde. On these tongues of land the several beach ridges consisting
stones and sand, shows that there through times have been layed many sediments.
 
Gammel-odde and Ny-odde are so called converged tongues of land,
that turns toward each other. In time the two tongues of land will reach
each other and change the little bay from salty sea to brackish water.
 
Achton Friis (participation in the ”Danmarks-ekspeditionen” in Greenland 1906 – 1908)
visited the island in 1922 and described the distance between Torø og Fyn as this:
”Øen,…adskilles mod øst fra Fyens Kyst ved det knap 500 m brede Thorø Sund.”
( The island… is separated from the coast of Funen by the the 500 meter wide Thorø Sund).
 
In 1993 there was a small channel, approx. ½ meter, that separate the two islands.
In 1995 the water came to WP 1 and in 2009 the water was at WP 2.
That means, that the sea had retired approx. ca 200 meter in almost 15 years.
