Geocache Description:

High above the Cal Poly campus. The best views in all of SLO town!

ALERT: Yes, as the log shows below the original coordinates posted had an error. Upon going back and checking my waypoints, the W coordinates got truncated and the system instead of showing an error just posts as .000 These coordinates are now corrected (Thanks to D.K. Philbin). Sorry for the confusion. - Stan Trevena

Both my wife and I graduated from Cal Poly in '86. I was a Business MIS major and she was Microbiology. We now have 9 year old triplets and a three year old (all boys). We make at least one trip down to SLO every year in October. We love Farmer's Market, and the entire Central Coast region. We hope to move back to the area someday (what Cal Poly grad doesn't dream this dream?). It really doesn't matter how long we are away, as soon as we hit the base of Cuesta Grade we are home. When we lived in the Sequoia dorms I would occasionally make the hike up to the "P", and then on up to the ridge. Some of the best views of the area are up here. It was only logical to hide a cache here. There are so many great rock formations at the ridge that it simply had to have a cache hidden here. The other nice thing is that there are some pretty direct (and extremely steep) paths(?) to get there, and then there are a series of zig zagging paths that cut back and forth across the hill face taking you past the "P" and on up. Even these will give most a good challenge (but my 9 year olds blazed up the paths). We met up with 4 new Cal Poly students that were from the dorms. I chatted with them and told them all about GeoCaching. They were pumped and were going to head to Wallmart to pick up a GPS. We built up some rocks around the cache, but left the top open so if you are looking you will find it, otherwise you will walk on by. The cache is a flat clear tupperware container. After our film is developed we will post some pictures of the area. Set aside a few hours for this trip. The best place to park is up above the R1 parking behind the dorms, up by the water storage facility. You will see a gate that has a sign stating that no vehicles are allowed beyond the gate. You will probably see many students hiking, jogging and walking around (we did). Take whatever route you want to the ridge high above the "P", and then use your GPS to find the cache. Have fun and by all means take a camera. Let me know if you find our note written on the left lower edge of the "P" about the GeoCache (the "P" get's painted so often that I doubt this will remain long). Please post pictures of your visit. Enjoy!
