Geocache Description:

The location of this cache is suitable for all. There is also a car park

The Whurl is the name I have given for the 'A' frame at what was the Barony Colliery, west of Auchinleck, Ayrshire. 'Whurl' (Whorl) in the concise Scots dictionary means ' pulley in the winding gear at a pit head', among other things.

The frame, which stands approximately 120 feet high is all that is left of the colliery. So you should not need a GPS to find the frame.

To the right of the frame is a picnic area and play area for children.

To the left is a memorial stone to those who worked and died at the colliery. Below the frame on the stonework are the names of four miners still buried in the pit.

Surrounding the frame are items depicting the life of a miner.

You will need to be discreet if others are visiting the site.

You are looking for a magnetic nano.
