Geocache Description:

Just off hiking trail. Trail is not always level. Kid friendly.

Harrison Park was named for Dr. Benjamin Franklin Harrison who had a medical practice in Wallingford from 1836 to 1846. He was a commissioned surgeon to a New York regiment at Yorktown, Virginia. He then continued his medical practice in Wallingford until his death on April 30, 1886.
Dr. Harrison’s third wife and widow Sarah, purchased the land in the upper portion of the park and donated it to the town in 1913 with the deed restriction that it be in perpetual use as a public park and that it be named Harrison Park in memory of her late husband.
In 1919, there were 27 “memorial” red oak trees planted in the park in memory of the men who had died during World War I with the oak tree at the entrance planted in memory of Dr. Harrison. The first dedication ceremony was held on May 30, 1919.
On Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009 the Park was rededicated for at least a second time. The Parks & Rec. Commission had the tree plaques restored and replacements made for those plaques which were missing. There will be 25 plaques plus one in memory of Dr. Harrison.
The Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts have participated in making trails, planting gardens, painting, constructing benches and more.
Take the time to read the plaques on the trees and remember all the men and women who have given their lives for our country.
The entrance to the Park is on Cedar Lane. There is only one way in and out.
The cache is placed just off a trail in Harrison Park. Container is a Lock-n-Lock medium size.
Snow may hamper finding this cache.

Update: I had to move this cache from its original position. Perhaps a squirrel had fun moving it to different places. After many times of having to go out and put it back I decided to place it in a more stable place. Will see how it goes.

The trail is not as well maintained as it was when I first placed this cache in 2009. You may not even think there is a trail. But the cache is not too far off the park road which is a dead end.
