This cache is located on the Pacific Coast. It is within sight of Cape Mendocino which is the farthest west point of land in the state of California and the second farthest west point of land within the Continental United States. The cache sits at an altitude of 17 feet above mean sea level. The walk to the cache is negligible.
This cache was hidden on Wednesday, 10-10-2001, at about 3:45 P.M. PDT. The cache container is an olive drab green colored ammo can. The ammo can contains a 1st-Place-Medal with an inscription on the back from NCFLYERS, a penlight with batteries, California Poppy seeds, quartz rocks, a monkey stamp pad with no ink (sorry), a jumprope, California Redwood playing cards, a multifunctional pocket knife, a lensatic compass, a bright flashlight with batteries, a fishing stringer, a 5-in-1 survival aid, a military "L" shaped flashlight with "D" sized batteries and a red lens, green lens, yellow lens, and blue lens, a surfboard necklace, cyalume stick, and a toy paratrooper.Be sure and look up the coast so you can see the Cape Mendocino Light flash every 15 seconds. A short distance north of the cache there is a marble interest marker about Steamboat Rock which you see readily from the cache site."Edison Medicine": Anything that brightens your day is a good thing!
