This cache is located in Hempstead Harbor within the confines of Port Washington.
The town of N. Hempstead started cleaning up the harbor many years ago, and added a few enjoyable places to visit as well.
This spot is part of the Hempstead Harbor Tidal Wetland Restoration Project. A nice nature trail takes you to a spot overlooking the harbor where at one time, there were over 60 barges all tied up and rotting away. These were removed years back as part of the clean-up project.
Now as you sit on the benches and look out at the back bay, only a few wooden pilings can be seen from what was once a mess.
Park in the lot after Labor day as a non resident, or after 5PM any day.

the trail winds in and out of the woods and onto the sidewalk in places. Just keep going, and follow the signs.
