Geocache Description:

A small geocache that needs a nine volt battery to make it work.

Yes, for this one you have to supply your own power source! The coordinates will take you directly to the cache, and a nine volt battery will open it for you. I don't think I need say any more...

... except to mention that this is a very exposed cache in a very exposed spot right in the middle of the Denmark River. Also a rather Muggley spot, so stealth is required — but they won't be able to sneak up on you!

A Bit of History

This is the location of the original BYOB#1. In May this year (2013) the bridge was closed for extensive repairs with a new concrete deck and new steel railing. I removed the cache and waited for the work to be finished. And waited. I was due to go on an extended overseas holiday for six weeks, and it didn't look like finishing before then, so I cautiously approached the two guys doing the renovation. And would you believe it, they are both keen geocachers! So I was able to leave the installation to them. In honour of the new work I've made a completely new cache; same principle but with some improvements.

Many thanks to Brendon and Tom for their excellent work on the bridge and the cache. It is now an official part of the bridge structure; painted to match exactly and placed with the Shire of Denmark's enthusiastic blessing.

Good hunting, 'roymerc'

A WORD OF WARNING ABOUT 9 VOLT BATTERIES!: Don't allow the terminals to come into contact with metallic objects! This will short circuit the battery and flatten it. It will also create a fair amount of heat. So putting your battery in the glovebox or your pocket with things like keys or loose change is not a good idea.
Some manufacturers sell them with a little plastic 'keeper' to protect the terminals. Keep the keeper! Or put some tape over the terminals or pop the battery in a plastic bag. Then you will be safe and can continue logging BYOBs!

COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT: Remember to replace the 9 volt batteries in your Smoke Detectors on April 1st
